Toto Wolff emphasized that Mercedes will avoid repeating the oversight of overexposing Andrea Kimi Antonelli to distractions away from the track at Imola, acknowledging that it affected his performance negatively before the Formula 1 race had even begun. Antonelli, who had a tough week in front of his home crowd, qualified 13th and retired during the race due to a throttle issue. He admitted to struggling managing the energy amid the attention from family, friends, and well-wishers, impacting his on-track performance. This was not the first time Antonelli disappointed a home crowd, as he crashed in Monza last year during his first F1 outing. While absent from Imola due to a family event in the USA, Wolff spoke with Antonelli and stressed the importance of setting boundaries and prioritizing focus during race weekends. Despite the setbacks at Imola, Antonelli has had a strong start at Mercedes, collecting 48 points and becoming the youngest polesitter in any F1 format in Miami. Looking ahead to Monaco, Wolff aims for Antonelli to gradually adapt to the challenging circuit and build up experience behind the wheel.
