Tim Mayer has announced his candidacy for the presidency of the FIA, acknowledging the need to prove himself as a change-bringer within the organization.
Despite initial expectations of an uncontested re-election for Mohammed Ben Sulayem, Carlos Sainz Sr’s decision not to challenge him opened up the race.
Mayer, a former Formula 1 steward, emphasized the necessity of replacing Ben Sulayem in his bid for FIA leadership, citing unfulfilled promises and the need for improved partnerships with championships and drivers.
His motivation stems from a desire to offer better leadership to the FIA member clubs and bring about necessary changes in the organization.
While acknowledging his past clash with Ben Sulayem, Mayer emphasized that his goal is to restore the core values of the FIA and provide effective leadership rather than seek revenge for his dismissal.
