At Indianapolis Motor Speedway last Sunday, IndyCar officials discovered unauthorized modifications on the rear attenuator of Josef Newgarden’s No. 2 Penske Chevrolet, sparking controversy. While Will Power passed pre-qualifying tech despite modifications, Newgarden did not, leading to their cars being removed from the grid. Originally set to start 11th and 12th, both drivers were penalized after competitors raised concerns about fairness. Newgarden & Power will now start 32nd and 33rd, respectively, at the rear of the field for the Indy 500. IndyCar took strong action, including suspensions, fines, and the loss of starting position, to uphold the race’s integrity and fairness.
