George Russell, following his triumph at the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix, led the first practice session for the Austrian GP at the Red Bull Ring. His Mercedes topped the times with a lap of 1m05.542s, with Max Verstappen close behind. Raindrops and traffic prevented late challenges to Russell’s time. Oscar Piastri was third fastest, while rookie Alex Dunne impressed in fourth, only 0.069s off Piastri’s time. The session also saw issues for veteran drivers like Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso, while Pierre Gasly and the rookies showed strong performances.
