McLaren CEO Zak Brown believes that Lando Norris’ collision with teammate Oscar Piastri at the Canadian Grand Prix actually boosted Norris’ confidence as they contest for the Formula 1 world title. The clash in Montreal, where Norris hit Piastri while battling for fourth, was a turning point for Norris, who had been struggling in qualifying against Piastri during the season’s first half. Despite still not being completely comfortable with the car’s feedback, Norris responded by winning the Austrian Grand Prix from pole position and clinching a emotional victory at Silverstone. Brown stated that the incident allowed the team to release tension and move forward with heightened morale and comfort, recognizing that racing mistakes are inevitable in such a competitive sport. McLaren’s team principal Andrea Stella highlighted Norris’ exceptional performance at the British Grand Prix, emphasizing that Piastri’s penalty did not diminish the significance of Norris’ win in front of his fans. As McLaren continues to demonstrate its strength on track, the team is set to debut a redesigned floor at the upcoming Belgian GP, potentially widening the gap between its title contenders. Despite the close points margin between Piastri and Norris, McLaren aims to uphold a fair and open racing environment for both drivers amidst their championship battle.
