According to a leading paddock source, George Russell is a target for Aston Martin’s F1 revival in 2026. The team considers him for their future plans after the significant regulation change in F1. Aston Martin has tasked Adrian Newey to design a competitive car under the new rules. Russell, currently with Mercedes, is a surprising contender to drive for Aston. Despite being out of contract, Russell expressed confidence in being on the grid next year and emphasized his readiness to fight for a championship. He reiterated his loyalty to Mercedes and intentions to stay with the team despite the talks surrounding other drivers. Toto Wolff, Mercedes team principal, is optimistic that Russell will sign a new deal and highlighted Russell’s growth and leadership within the team.
