Revving Up Accountability: FIA’s New Racing Guidelines and the Push for Transparency in F1

The FIA has released the updated F1 racing guidelines for 2025 alongside the penalty system in response to calls for enhanced transparency within the sport.

After significant discussions with drivers and in light of past incidents, major changes have been made to the guidelines to address on-track behavior.

The latest guidelines emphasize the rules for overtaking, including the criteria for giving space when overtaking on the inside and outside of corners.

While the guidelines provide a framework for steward judgments, each incident will still be evaluated on a case-by-case basis considering various factors like track position, car handling, and corner characteristics.

Drivers are urged to familiarize themselves with the guidelines to better understand how on-track incidents may be interpreted by race stewards.

The publication of these guidelines marks a notable shift towards improved transparency and consistency in how racing incidents are reviewed and penalized in Formula 1.
