Interest in the World Rally Championship’s 2027 technical regulations is growing, with new manufacturers and tuners showing interest as the rules are being finalized to be more affordable and flexible.
The new regulations aim to attract new manufacturers and teams by introducing cars built to a €345,000 cost cap, delivering performance similar to current Rally1 machines, but with a space frame chassis and Rally2 componentry.
The regulations allow for tuners and manufacturers to construct the chassis and design their own bodywork under the 2027 ruleset, offering freedom to scale and integrate various design elements.
The FIA has noted that at least two tuners are closely working on projects related to the 2027 regulations, with one manufacturer potentially nearing an announcement to join the WRC from 2027.
While Toyota, Hyundai, and M-Sport-Ford have yet to officially confirm their participation in 2027, there are indications that they are exploring the new regulations and preparing for potential involvement.
The FIA is considering allowing flexibility on engines eligible for the 2027 regulations and is discussing with manufacturers to achieve parity between vehicles, with the next focus being the finalization of the roll cage within the next two months.
