McLaren boss Andrea Stella acknowledged the need for “tough conversations” following the intra-squad collision at the Canadian Grand Prix, but asserted that Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will continue to have the freedom to race. The incident during the Montreal race was attributed to Norris bungling his attempt to overtake Piastri, impacting the team’s performance. Despite Norris taking the blame for the incident and apologizing promptly, McLaren plans to address the implications of such mishaps through discussions, like they did after the Italian Grand Prix in 2020. It was emphasized that while incidents like these are part of racing, they will be handled by reinforcing McLaren’s ‘papaya rules’ of fair competition within the team.
