Qatar MotoGP winner Di Giannantonio explains ‘mapping 8’ message
Fabio Di Giannantonio, a rider for Gresini Racing, achieved his first-ever victory in the premier class by overtaking championship leader Francesco Bagnaia during the Qatar GP. Despite this success, Di Giannantonio currently does not have a spot on the 2024 grid, as his ride has been taken by Marc Marquez. Initially considered for a Honda seat, it now seems likely that Luca Marini will receive the opportunity instead, as VR46 mentioned that Di Giannantonio is not an option. During the race, Di Giannantonio received a “mapping 8” message on his dashboard, which was previously used by Ducati to give team orders to Jorge Lorenzo in 2017. However, Di Giannantonio clarified that the message simply indicated that he didn’t have much time left to attack Bagnaia. Although uncertain about his future prospects, Di Giannantonio expressed that he is “speechless” that his place in MotoGP is even in question, emphasizing that he is still relatively new to the championship and believes he is on the right track.
