Palou Shines as Andretti Faces Challenge: A Saturday of Surprises in Indy 500 Qualifying

In the 2025 season, Alex Palou set the pace on Saturday with a speed of 233.043mph, securing the top spot for the Fast 6 qualifying round on Sunday. Palou will be joined by other top qualifiers including McLaughlin, Newgarden, O’Ward, Dixon, Schwartzman, Malukas, Rosenqvist, Sato, Power, Ericsson, and Lundgaard.

On the other end of the grid, Graham Rahal narrowly avoided the last-chance qualifier, edging out Marco Andretti by just 0.004mph in a tense qualifying session. Rahal commended his team for their hard work and improvement throughout the day.

Notable incidents during qualifying included Colton Herta’s scary crash in Turn 1, forcing him to switch to a backup car, and Felix Rosenqvist’s impressive pace despite having to lift during his third lap.

Palou ultimately claimed the top spot with a 233mph run, dominating the qualifying session and setting the stage for a competitive race day at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
