Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc are not anticipating a significant improvement in their competitiveness with the new Ferrari car floor at the Austrian Grand Prix after a subdued Friday.
Ferrari introduced a completely redesigned floor at the Red Bull Ring, aiming to enhance aerodynamic load and overall performance through cornering speeds.
Although the team expects the new design to enhance performance in various conditions, the immediate impact seems marginal based on Leclerc’s performance on the track.
Hamilton and Leclerc faced challenges during Friday’s practice sessions, with Leclerc missing FP1 and Hamilton dealing with gearbox issues affecting his running.
Despite Leclerc acknowledging the new floor’s aero gains, he expressed difficulty in perceiving a tangible difference in performance, emphasizing the need for further improvements.
Hamilton commended the team’s efforts in addressing the gearbox issues but acknowledged the lackluster performance on Friday, signaling a need for adjustments before the upcoming sessions.
