NASCAR’s Kyle Larson: From Talladega Nights to the Big leagues

Kyle Larson recently appeared on Julian Edelman’s podcast, Games with Names, where they discussed various topics for more than 90 minutes. Larson, a driver for Hendrick Motorsports, shared insights on his experiences, including the Coke 600/Indy 500 double and secret driver group chats, as well as his views on life on the road and racing idols.

During the conversation, Larson revealed that his favorite NASCAR movie is Days of Thunder, a 1990 film starring Tom Cruise that remains a classic among fans. He mentioned that Cruise has expressed interest in creating a sequel and has discussed it with Jeff Gordon.

Larson also praised the 2010 documentary on Formula 1 legend Ayrton Senna, describing it as a “great movie.” While he has not yet watched the new F1 film featuring Brad Pitt, Larson shared his thoughts on the 2006 comedy Talladega Nights, expressing mixed feelings about its impact on the perception of the sport.

He believes that Talladega Nights, while popular and quoted often, may have portrayed NASCAR in a negative light, turning it into a “joke” in the eyes of some. Larson’s teammate, William Byron, echoed this sentiment on social media, agreeing that the movie’s portrayal should not define the sport for the public.
