NASCAR Navigates Turbulence: Adjusting Mexico Race Weekend Amid Aircraft Issues

On Thursday, a chartered plane carrying members of the NASCAR industry was grounded due to an engine issue, leading to delays and the need to find an alternate route to Mexico City. As a result of this incident and other air travel challenges, NASCAR was forced to make schedule adjustments for the upcoming weekend.

The on-track schedule for the weekend’s activities at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City had to be modified due to aircraft issues that affected multiple race teams in Charlotte, N.C. This led to NASCAR rearranging the practice sessions for the NASCAR Cup Series and the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

The NASCAR Cup Series practices were rescheduled to the afternoon, while the NASCAR Xfinity Series practice sessions were moved to Saturday. The first of the two NASCAR Mexico Series races was shifted to Friday morning, occurring more than five hours earlier than originally planned.

Although there were some modifications, NASCAR ensured that Cup teams would not lose any practice time. The updated schedule includes a NASCAR Mexico Series race, Cup Series practices, and Xfinity Series activities on Friday and Saturday.

Ultimately, Sunday’s schedule will remain unchanged, with the NASCAR Cup race scheduled for 3 pm EST and the green flag set to wave at 3:23 pm EST. The adjustments aim to accommodate the travel challenges and ensure a successful weekend of racing in Mexico City.
