Lando Norris has been struggling to adjust to the 2025 McLaren, especially during qualifying where he faces tough competition from teammate Oscar Piastri. The car’s decreased feedback has made it challenging for Norris to push the limits in corners, leading to issues with cueing.
Both drivers have experienced front axle numbness, impacting their ability to replicate their best laps. Piastri has adapted better, securing more pole positions than Norris. McLaren worked on subtle solutions, including revised front suspension geometry, to help Norris feel more connected to the car.
Technical director Neil Houldey explained the adjustments made to enhance Norris’ performance and ensure no negative impacts on the car’s overall performance. McLaren had to carefully balance improvements for Norris without compromising the car’s competitiveness. Piastri is likely to stick with the original suspension design while Norris benefits from the tailored changes.
