McLaren team principal Andrea Stella expressed his full support for Lando Norris after Norris took responsibility for colliding with his F1 team-mate Oscar Piastri during the Canadian Grand Prix. Norris admitted his mistake over team radio and personally apologized to Stella and Piastri.
Stella mentioned that McLaren will have internal discussions on avoiding similar incidents in the future but reiterated their support for Norris, who immediately owned up to the error.
Stella appreciated Norris’ accountability and swift apology, emphasizing the importance of learning from such situations in order to maintain necessary safety margins during races.
The team principal believed Norris’ previous qualifying struggles did not contribute to the on-track incident, and discussions to address the issue would be held calmly and constructively once everyone had rested.
Stella emphasized the need to reflect on the incident and learn from it in order to improve as a team and prevent similar unfortunate events in future races.
