Max Verstappen’s car setup turnaround on Saturday helped him secure pole position at the British Grand Prix after struggling with understeer during Friday practice.
Red Bull adjusted to a lower downforce rear wing, allowing Verstappen to be competitive in qualifying and eventually grab his fourth pole of the 2025 season.
Verstappen narrowly defeated McLaren drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris in a tight qualifying session, with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, George Russell, and Lewis Hamilton also in contention.
Verstappen credited the team’s improvement in reducing understeer for his success, stating that the car’s balance was much better on Saturday compared to Friday.
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner praised both Verstappen’s performance and the engineering team’s work on the car overnight, highlighting the team’s ability to adapt and improve.
While Verstappen’s pole lap drew comparisons to his previous achievements, Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko noted that they had expected a strong showing due to the team’s gradual improvements throughout the weekend.
