Jose Maria Lopez will serve as a reserve driver for Toyota Gazoo Racing at the upcoming Le Mans 24 Hours competition in the World Endurance Championship.
Last year, Lopez stepped in for the injured Mike Conway at short notice during the test day and will be on standby for this year’s event.
Despite not having driven the GR010 HYBRID Le Mans Hypercar recently, Lopez has been keeping up with the car through a test outing at Paul Ricard.
Lopez finished as a runner-up in the previous year’s race, coming just 14 seconds behind the winning Ferrari.
Toyota values Lopez’s experience at Le Mans, making him the preferred choice for a quick entry into the race if needed.
Floury, the TGR Europe technical director, highlighted Lopez’s readiness and familiarity with the team, emphasizing his importance as a potential stand-in driver.
