Race leader Josef Newgarden’s hopeful return to form was abruptly halted by a mid-race crash with rookie Louis Foster. Foster lost control on lap 131, hitting the wall, which led to Newgarden colliding with his stricken car, causing Newgarden’s car to go airborne and land upside-down.
Both drivers were quickly attended to by the AMR Safety Team and were released from the care center. Foster took responsibility for the crash and attributed it to pushing too hard on the high line.
This incident marked the second DNF for both drivers in the race, continuing a challenging season for them. The race resumed after repairs, with pit road finally opening on lap 142 and green flag action returning on lap 150.
