High Drama at F1 Spanish GP: Leclerc-Verstappen Collision Dodges Punishment

The FIA race stewards decided not to penalize Charles Leclerc for the contact with Max Verstappen during the Spanish Grand Prix, allowing Leclerc to keep his podium finish.

Verstappen, struggling on hard tires, had a mistake on a safety car restart, giving Leclerc the opportunity to pass him. Both drivers moved towards each other on the track, resulting in a minor collision.

After reviewing various data and evidence, the stewards deemed it a racing incident with neither driver fully at fault.

Verstappen received a 10-second penalty and three penalty points for a separate incident with George Russell, finishing 10th, while Leclerc secured third place behind the McLarens of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.

Verstappen now has four penalty points on his license, one point away from a potential race ban before the Austrian Grand Prix in late June.
