Denny Hamlin matched Jeff Gordon’s best finish for a Cup driver making their 700th career start, placing third at Nashville, a milestone achieved by only 22 drivers. Despite the challenging race conditions at the concrete oval, Hamlin faced additional difficulties when the air hose to his helmet disconnected, causing extreme heat inside the car. Running without a cool shirt, Hamlin struggled with the lack of ventilation and explained that the other drivers had advantages he didn’t. Despite these challenges, he pushed forward with the visor up to get fresher air, ultimately finishing behind Carson Hocevar and race winner Ryan Blaney. The race strategy was impacted by a strange phase in the track conditions, limiting passing opportunities and causing challenges due to the lack of cars running in the middle lanes. Additionally, there was a real possibility that Hamlin might have had to skip the race due to the imminent birth of his third child, luckily, he was able to race to completion, winning Stage 1 and leading a total of 79 laps.
