George Russell acknowledged that his fastest lap in second practice at the F1 Canadian Grand Prix was his best effort behind the wheel of his Mercedes, benefiting from cooler temperatures in Montreal. Despite heading the timesheet by a narrow margin over Lando Norris, Russell emphasized that he was pushing to the limit. Russell’s top time was set on the C5 medium tires, whereas Norris was on the softer C6 compound. The Mercedes driver expressed satisfaction with his performance on Friday but anticipates a tough challenge from Norris in the race, with tyre strategy likely to play a crucial role. Rookie teammate Kimi Andrea Antonelli also showed promise by finishing third in practice, indicating a strong overall performance from the Mercedes team in Canada.
