George Russell believes that Mercedes faced a challenging race at the Austrian Grand Prix due to high track temperatures, calling it a “perfect storm” of difficulties.
Despite his efforts to deliver for Mercedes after a challenging start, Russell ultimately finished in fifth place, over half a minute behind his competitors.
Russell highlighted the team’s ongoing struggle with tire overheating issues, which significantly impact their performance on high-temperature tracks.
Despite the tough weekend, Mercedes managed to minimize the damage in the constructors’ championship, inching closer to Ferrari and Red Bull’s struggles in scoring points.
Looking ahead to the next race at Silverstone, Russell hopes for cooler conditions to favor Mercedes’ performance, similar to their success at the track in the past.
