Motorsport.com has learned that McLaren’s Formula E team will be shut down at the end of the current season due to unsuccessful attempts to find a buyer. McLaren opted to withdraw from Formula E after three seasons to focus on its World Endurance Championship entry for 2027. Despite efforts to secure a buyer, including rumored interest from manufacturers like Hyundai, the team was unable to find a suitor. The closure is expected to take place in September following the conclusion of the 2024-25 Formula E season, leaving drivers Sam Bird and Taylor Barnard without seats. Bird and Barnard may seek opportunities elsewhere on the grid given the team’s closure and their respective performances this season.
