From Turmoil to Triumph: Richard Lietz’s Remarkable Journey to Le Mans Glory

Richard Lietz, an experienced GT Porsche driver at Le Mans, thought his racing career was ending before winning the LMGT3 class at the recent event. The introduction of the new LMGT3 class in the World Endurance Championship sparked thoughts of a changing era in 2024 for the 40-year-old with four class wins already.

Surprised by an offer from Manthey, Lietz secured a fifth Le Mans victory last year and a more dominant sixth win this year. His recent success was attributed to the Porsche’s tire-friendliness and driver Ryan Hardwick’s consistency.

Despite leading the WEC LMGT3 points, Lietz remains unsure about his future due to his age and competition from younger drivers. Regardless, he expressed a willingness to continue being involved in racing, even if not as a driver.
