In his 200th MotoGP start, Franco Morbidelli crashed on the opening lap of the British GP after being knocked down by Aleix Espargaro’s bike. Despite the setback, Morbidelli managed to take the restart and made an incredible recovery ride to finish fourth, just 0.017 seconds behind Marc Marquez.
Morbidelli described the race as amazing and incredible, emphasizing the team’s perseverance and belief throughout the challenging weekend. Despite starting from 13th place and facing a penalty, he fought his way back and narrowly missed the podium by 17 milliseconds in a thrilling battle with Marquez.
Reflecting on the race, Morbidelli acknowledged Marquez’s skill in beating him on the final lap and recognized the eight-time world champion’s performance. He expressed some bitterness at missing the podium but ultimately felt grateful for the positive outcome of the race and team’s efforts.
Despite the collision with Espargaro that nearly ended his race early, Morbidelli focused on the positives of the day, praising his team’s quick work during the restart. He chose to leave the negatives behind and highlighted the amazing performance they delivered despite the challenges faced.
Espargaro, who caused the incident, expressed regret for the crash and explained his perspective on the situation, acknowledging the impact on Morbidelli’s race. Morbidelli’s teammate, Fabio Di Giannantonio, also had a promising weekend with a third-place finish in the sprint race but finished tenth in the GP, reflecting on the mixed results of the two races.
