Ferrari explains why Sainz, Leclerc escaped FIA F1 sanction
Prior to qualifying at Monza, F1 drivers were informed that they had to maintain a maximum delta time for all of their laps, not just the in-laps. Only in exceptional circumstances would drivers escape penalty. The maximum time allowed between the safety car lines was set at 1m41s by the FIA. However, analysis of lap times in Q1 revealed that both Leclerc and Sainz had very slow out-laps, potentially breaching the allowed time. Initially, the FIA announced an investigation, but after Sainz secured pole position, it was revealed that no further action would be taken. Ferrari team principal, Fred Vasseur, explained that both drivers exceeded the time due to slowing down to give way to faster cars. Ferrari celebrated their pole position achievement but emphasized the importance of the race on Sunday.
