Fanning the Flames: Hyak Motorsports Axes NASCAR Cup Spotter Tab Boyd

Hyak Motorsports recently terminated their contract with spotter Tab Boyd, who previously worked with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and the No. 47 Chevrolet. Clayton Hughes will now take over as the spotter for Pocono, as stated on the weekend rosters.

Stenhouse confirmed this development during a Friday morning SiriusXM NASCAR interview, mentioning that Boyd was let go, and Hughes has been brought in as a replacement, a spotter he has not previously collaborated with.

The exact reason behind Boyd’s dismissal has not been disclosed, and efforts to seek clarification from the team have not yielded any response thus far, according to Motorsport.com.

Boyd attracted attention this week due to a social media post criticizing Mexico after NASCAR’s recent race there, resulting in him deactivating his account. Despite not participating in the Cup race, he remains listed as the spotter for other series, showcasing his experience in the racing industry.

Boyd has an extensive background in spotting, having previously worked with top teams like Hendrick Motorsports and achieving success with Stenhouse in winning the 2023 Daytona 500. This incident comes in the wake of Spire Motorsports imposing hefty fines on their own driver, Carson Hocevar, for insensitive remarks made about Mexico during a Twitch live-stream.
