George Russell did an incredible job by securing pole position at the Canadian Grand Prix, lining up on the front row next to his rival Max Verstappen from Barcelona. Verstappen, who received a 10-place grid penalty and three penalty points following an incident with Russell in the Spanish Grand Prix, will face off against him once again in Montreal. Russell’s impressive performance throughout the weekend culminated in his first pole position since the Las Vegas Grand Prix, setting a time of 1m10.899s. Meanwhile, championship leader Oscar Piastri will start third for McLaren, with Lando Norris starting in seventh alongside Charles Leclerc on the fourth row. The grid for the race also features Andrea Kimi Antonelli in fourth, Lewis Hamilton in fifth, and Fernando Alonso in sixth, while Yuki Tsunoda will have to start from the back due to a grid penalty. Elsewhere, there were surprises in Q1, with Pierre Gasly being the slowest and home favorite Lance Stroll struggling with an 18th place starting position. The session had a red flag due to a bodywork issue on Alex Albon’s Williams, causing delays and creating tensions between drivers, including Carlos Sainz and Isack Hadjar.
