World Rally Championship drivers have expressed concerns about the demanding itinerary of Rally Portugal, including spending 14 hours behind the wheel on Friday. The schedule for this year’s fifth round of the WRC season featured two additional stages on Friday, resulting in a total of 10 stages and a 683-kilometre distance to cover. Many drivers felt the day was excessively long and tiring, with limited breaks and only short regroups between stages. Some drivers, like Kalle Rovanperä and Elfyn Evans, mentioned safety concerns and the need for a more balanced schedule in the future. Even reigning champion Thierry Neuville acknowledged the challenges of the long day and stressed the importance of proper rest and preparation time for crews. WRC2 driver Gus Greensmith also emphasized the importance of having challenging rally days on the calendar but suggested that more consideration should be given to providing adequate rest periods for competitors.
