Dreams Fulfilled: Robert Shwartzman Secures Indy 500 Pole Position with Prema Racing

Prema Racing started the week struggling at the bottom of the time sheets in Indianapolis, but the rookie driver and team turned things around to secure pole position for their first oval race in the 109th running of the Indy 500.

Robert Shwartzman, a 25-year-old rookie from Israel, made history by becoming the first rookie in 42 years to earn pole at the crown jewel event of IndyCar. He will share the front row with Takuma Sato and Pato O’Ward.

The second row for the Indy 500 will feature Scott Dixon, Felix Rosenqvist, and Alex Palou. Shwartzman expressed his disbelief and gratitude for the opportunity, crediting his team and car for the amazing performance.

In the Fast 6 and Fast 12 rounds of qualifying, Sato initially took provisional pole but was surpassed by Shwartzman. The Team Penske trio faced drama, with McLaughlin’s crash and inspection issues leading to their exclusion from the Fast 12.

Despite the challenges, drivers like Palou fought for a spot in the Fast 6, with Malukas ultimately securing it. The starting lineup for the prestigious race includes impressive talents like Lundgaard and Ericsson, while Penske drivers Power and Newgarden will start in Row 4.
