Details of McLaren’s DTM project with Dorr Group revealed
In February, the ADAC revealed McLaren as the seventh manufacturer for 2024 but kept their program details under wraps. Dorr Group, McLaren’s largest dealer network owner in Europe, will launch two 720S GT3 Evos for Clemens Schmid and Ben Dorr. The McLaren cars will don the papaya orange livery, as unveiled in secret presentations in Frankfurt and Munich. This marks McLaren’s first full-season entry in the series, following a brief presence in 2021. With Project 1’s bankruptcy, Dorr stands as the only team in the running, recruiting mechanics from Project 1’s GTE Am program. The Dorr team plans a three-year commitment in DTM, aiming for steady progress. Clemens Schmid brings experience, while Ben Dorr, heir to the family team, showcases promising talent after McLaren-organized tests. Discussions with former F1 driver Timo Glock for a potential return to DTM did not materialize due to funding challenges.
