Red Bull team principal Christian Horner believed that Oscar Piastri’s safety car penalty at the British Grand Prix highlighted the need for George Russell to receive a similar penalty in Canada last month. Piastri received a 10-second time penalty for braking heavily behind the safety car at Silverstone, allowing Max Verstappen to briefly pass him, followed by a penalty for Verstappen. This incident drew comparisons to Russell’s actions in Canada, where Red Bull’s protest was rejected by the stewards. The stewards deemed Piastri’s braking to be too severe, contrasting it with Russell’s more moderate braking in Canada. Despite the setback, Verstappen showed strong recovery on a drying track, but ultimately finished fifth. Horner praised Verstappen’s performance in qualifying with a low-downforce setup and was disappointed by the unpredictable weather conditions that affected Red Bull’s race strategy.
