Charting the Future: Unveiling the Revamped WRC 2027 Regulations to the WRC Commission

The updated technical regulations for the World Rally Championship 2027 are currently being finalized for presentation to the FIA World Motor Sport Council next month. Several refinements to the regulations were discussed by the WRC Commission, focusing primarily on bodywork and defining areas of cars within the regulations, as well as reorganizing articles on the engine control system and electronics.

The framework for the 2027 regulations was announced last December, aiming to attract more manufacturers and teams with cars built to a cost cap of €345,000 resembling current Rally1 cars but with Rally2 engines and open chassis construction. Teams have expressed the urgency for more details, with final regulations not expected until the end of August, causing some tension among current manufacturers.

Proposed refinements to the regulations, including new chapters on bodywork and sustainable materials, are in the final stages before presentation to the WRC Commission and subsequent submission for approval at the World Motor Sport Council in Macau next month. Chassis studies and crash test simulations are underway, expecting real-world tests in July and August to ensure safety standards are met.
