“A front suspension update was implemented by McLaren for the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix, involving a slight geometrical change tested by Lando Norris during free practice and utilized by him in qualifying.
However, championship leader Oscar Piastri opted to return to the standard specification due to his successful performance thus far.
McLaren Team Principal Andrea Stella clarified that while the update provides more feedback at the front end, the overall impact on performance is minimal.
The slight tweak aimed to address the lack of sensitivity in the MCL39, a concern particularly felt by Norris.
Despite not yielding added performance, Norris expressed confidence in the set-up before an incident in the final Q3 run.
Stella emphasized that the update offers different set-up options for the drivers and aims to ensure both can perform at a similar level with the MCL39. “
