According to Yamaha factory rider Alex Rins, the V4-engined MotoGP bike being developed by Yamaha was two seconds slower per lap than its current inline-four racer during testing at Brno last week. Rins and Pramac Yamaha rider Miguel Oliveira conducted a private test at Brno, where Yamaha’s test team, alongside test riders Augusto Fernandez and Andrea Dovizioso, worked on the V4 project. Yamaha is the only MotoGP manufacturer still using an inline-four engine following Suzuki’s withdrawal, but they’ve been exploring the V4 engine as an alternative since last year. Alex Rins expressed curiosity about the new V4 bike after observing it at the test, but has yet to actually ride it himself. Rins noted a potential two-second difference in lap times between the current bike and the V4, but believes the actual gap may be less due to limited running and new tire restrictions. Alex Rins’ teammate, Fabio Quartararo, anticipates testing the V4 in September at Misano and is looking forward to experiencing its potential firsthand.
