Aston Martin’s Technical Chief, Adrian Newey, emphasizes the need for expanding the team’s aero department to reach its full potential, despite being encouraged by the team’s capabilities at Silverstone.
Newey, renowned for his work at Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull, took on the role at Aston Martin to prepare for the 2026 regulations cycle under Lawrence Stroll’s ownership.
The team has faced challenges, slipping from the limelight in 2023 to a disappointing season, highlighting the gap between ambitions and on-track performance.
While impressed by the team’s infrastructure and personnel, including recent elite-level recruits, Newey stresses the importance of optimizing resources and enhancing collaboration to excel in Formula 1.
Identifying the aero department as a key area for growth, he acknowledges the constraints of the budget cap and staffing limitations in preparing for regulatory changes, requiring strategic focus and efficient resource allocation.
Newey’s approach involves prioritizing fruitful directions for development, balancing between exploration and ensuring timely progress in a competitive field, despite the tight timelines.
