When McLaren CEO Zak Brown first joined the Formula 1 team in 2016, he was surprised by the chaos he encountered, which was far worse than he had anticipated. The struggles McLaren faced with Honda were evident, but the problems extended beyond just the engine. Brown identified issues with management, structure, and sponsorship, as well as a lack of leadership and negativity within the team. Despite his background in sponsorship, taking on a management role with McLaren presented a new challenge for Brown, who had to instill confidence and stability within the team. His priority was to revamp the leadership team and ensure that all aspects of the organization were functioning effectively, from commercial success to fan engagement and technical development.
