Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll lamented a misguided tyre change in a wet qualifying for the Las Vegas Grand Prix that led to him starting 12th instead of a potential second-row spot. Stroll showed strong pace early on, but the tyre strategy backfired, in contrast to his teammate Alonso’s P7 grid spot. Stroll impressed in Q1 by finishing fourth on Wet compounds, but the decision to switch to Intermediate tyres in Q2 was a pivotal mistake as the track conditions didn’t evolve as expected. Stroll felt the team’s decision was ultimately “stupid” and not bold, regretting the missed opportunity to fight for a better grid position. In contrast, Alonso supported the team’s overall strategy and praised the team’s commitment to maximizing results despite their current competitiveness challenges. Stroll and Aston Martin hope to bounce back in the race after the qualifying setbacks.
