Ben Keating credited ‘almost perfect conditions’ towards his LMP2 pole position for the 24 Hours of Daytona, which will open
The two-time IMSA LMP2 champion surpassed his pole time from last year’s Roar Before the 24 by over two seconds, setting a new record with a time of 1:38.501. This impressive time was achieved during the 15-minute LMP2 session, earning him his first pole position of the year in United Autosports’ #2 Oreca 07. Keating credited the ideal track conditions for his success, acknowledging the unbelievably fast and almost perfect conditions. He expressed surprise at the quick pace and expected to have a larger gap between him and the competition, but Nick Boulle from Inter Europol with PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports came within a tenth of a second of Keating’s time. The highly competitive LMP2 field promises an exciting year ahead, with an epic battle expected at the Daytona International Speedway Road Course on January 27-28.
