Vasseur lauds Sainz for “clever” DRS tactic with Norris: ‘It was his idea’
Carlos Sainz delivered a masterclass performance in Singapore, securing Ferrari’s first F1 victory since the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix. Starting from pole position, Sainz maintained control of the race with teammate Charles Leclerc providing valuable support. The race dynamics shifted when the Virtual Safety Car was deployed following Esteban Ocon’s incident, allowing Mercedes drivers George Russell and Lewis Hamilton to pit for new tires. Russell and Hamilton closed in on the leaders, challenging Lando Norris for second place. However, Sainz strategically backed off, giving Norris a top-speed advantage to defend his position, ultimately securing the win. Team boss Vasseur praised Sainz’s management and deemed it a clever move to prioritize defending against Mercedes instead of Norris.
