Revving Up for Redemption: Ulster Grand Prix Roars Back with Thrilling Revival

The Ulster Grand Prix could make a long-awaited comeback in 2027

The Ulster Grand Prix could potentially make a comeback in 2027 following government funding granted to the Motorcycle Union of Ireland (Ulster Centre). The last event held in 2019 saw Peter Hickman dominate with seven race wins and a new lap record at the Dundrod circuit near Belfast. Unfortunately, low turnout caused by bad weather and subsequent funding issues and the COVID pandemic put the event on hold. Efforts to revive the race in 2022 were made by the Revival Racing Club after the Dundrod and District Club faced financial challenges. The MCUI has secured £400,000 in government funding for safety improvements, seeking additional support to cover the estimated running costs of £800,000 to ensure a sustainable revival of the Ulster Grand Prix. Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly recognizes the event as a significant part of Northern Ireland’s sporting heritage and community spirit, which has historically relied on public contributions due to minimal government funding.
