Franz Tost has hit out at his AlphaTauri F1 team for being “too stupid to choose the correct strategy” after Yuki Tsunoda’s strategy didn’t quite work out.
Tsunoda had a strong performance at the Yas Marina Circuit, but the strategy deployed by AlphaTauri ultimately didn’t work out. He qualified sixth and briefly took the race lead, but lost positions to Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton. A sixth place finish was needed for AlphaTauri to overtake Williams in the constructors’ championship. Team principal Tost expressed frustration with the strategy, stating that it was a mistake and that a seventh place finish was more realistic for Tsunoda. The technicians were unable to come up with a strategy that would have worked in the end.
