Toprak Razgatlioglu moving to BMW has done little to dampen Kenan Sofuoglu’s expectations, as the former Supersport great expects him to fight for WorldSBK wins from the outset in 2024.
Razgatlioglu, the 2021 world champion, will be switching to a BMW bike for the first time in five years. Despite the BMW M 1000 RR’s reputation for being weaker than the Yamaha R1, Razgatlioglu is considered well equipped for the transition. Alvaro Bautista’s achievements at Ducati, winning 27 out of 37 races in 2023, have not stopped competitors from picking Razgatlioglu as the best rider last season. Sofuoglu, who is aware of the challenge ahead, believes Razgatlioglu can propel BMW from the mid-field to winning races. While winning might be difficult, Sofuoglu expects Razgatlioglu to always be fighting for the podium and potentially even achieve a win. Testing will begin this week at Jerez, followed by another two-day session at Portimao later in the month, with all five factory teams and several satellite teams in attendance.
