Sainz says he and Norris 'should buy each other drinks' after DRS tactic
Carlos Sainz took pole position and led the race from the start. However, a virtual safety car on lap 43 allowed Mercedes to change tires and become a threat to Sainz. George Russell and Lewis Hamilton overtook Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc with ease, leaving only Norris between them and Sainz. Sainz slowed down to keep Norris close and gave him DRS to defend against the Mercedes. This tactic not only helped Sainz win the race but also helped Norris secure second place. Sainz and Norris are former McLaren teammates and good friends, known as Carlando. This is the second time they have shared the podium and the first in a 1-2 finish. Sainz’s victory is significant, as he is the only non-Red Bull driver to win a race so far in 2023.
