Pol Espargaro has criticised how KTM handled their rider line-up decision which resulted in his demotion from a full-time MotoGP seat.
KTM faced a dilemma with Moto2 star Pedro Acosta’s promotion to the premier class, as they had five riders but only four bikes. After Dorna rejected the idea of a fifth bike, KTM decided to leave veteran rider Espargaro without a seat for the 2024 season. Acosta will take over Espargaro’s Tech3 GASGAS ride. Espargaro will now assume the role of test and reserve rider, while also competing with wildcards. Espargaro expressed his frustration with the situation, criticizing KTM’s management and their shortcomings in contracts and rider management. He also opened up about the severe injuries he suffered in a crash, calling it the worst injury of his career and highlighting the traumatic experience he had to endure.
