MotoGP’s long-rumoured revised system of technical Concessions has been announced.
The previous Concessions system became unnecessary once Aprilia achieved enough podium results to join the other factories on the same technical rules at the beginning of this season. However, there is now a clear divide between the performance of the European (Ducati, KTM, and Aprilia) and Japanese (Honda and Yamaha) factories, with the latter experiencing a decline in recent years. Despite some success for Yamaha and Honda this year, European bikes dominated the championship standings. The new Sprint race format, which reduces practice time, has also made it more challenging to close the technical gap. As a result, a revised Concession system has been agreed upon, allowing struggling manufacturers more opportunities to develop their bikes based on their percentage of maximum constructors’ points scored. Each factory’s Concession ranking will be recalculated in two windows, and the ranking determines the range of privileges and allowances they receive.
