Morbidelli to confirm ‘24 seat, strengthening Valentino Rossi’s bond with Ducati
According to Motosprint, Morbidelli is expected to join Pramac Racing, which will complete the MotoGP rider line-up puzzle for 2024. With this move, all four of Valentino Rossi’s VR46 Academy graduates on the current grid will be tied to Ducati. This will have implications for the future of Rossi’s team, Mooney VR46, as they are currently contracted with Ducati for 2024 but negotiations are underway for a longer stay. Dorna, the official rights holder for MotoGP, reportedly wants VR46 to become a Yamaha satellite team in order to reduce Ducati’s bikes from eight to six. However, Morbidelli’s switch to Ducati strengthens the bond between Rossi and the Italian manufacturer. Despite being a Yamaha brand ambassador, Rossi is now professionally benefiting from Ducati, where he had previously struggled as a rider. Morbidelli lost his Yamaha ride for next year, leading to a chain reaction of rider movements.
