Marc Marquez admits he was slightly surprised to see Honda begin negotiations with Luca Marini for its vacant 2024 MotoGP seat.
The eight-time world champion will be leaving Honda at the end of the 2023 MotoGP season to join Gresini Ducati. This means that one of the most sought-after seats in MotoGP will be available, as Honda has been very successful in the past. Fabio Di Giannantonio was initially thought to be the obvious choice, as he is currently out of contract, but now it seems that Marini is close to joining Honda. Marquez commented on Marini’s decision, stating that he thought Honda would have gone for Di Giannantonio, but from his observations in Thailand, it seems Marini will take his place. Marquez also expressed his happiness for Marini and believes that he is a talented rider who will do well on the Ducati, which is currently the best bike on the grid. As for the upcoming season, Marquez has high expectations for Pedro Acosta, who he believes will have his own era of greatness in MotoGP. Marquez has been impressed with Acosta since his first race in Moto3 and predicts that he will become a big name in the sport.
