Sprint race results from the Malaysian MotoGP at Sepang, round 18 of 20 in the 2023 world championship.
Rookie Alex Marquez won the 2023 Malaysian MotoGP Sprint race, overtaking title contenders Jorge Martin and Francesco Bagnaia. This was Marquez’s second Sprint victory of the season, after a wet win at Silverstone. Martin closed the gap on Bagnaia’s lead to 11 points before the full-length grand prix on Sunday. The reigning champion led for the first half of the race but lost pace and finished with Enea Bastianini and Brad Binder behind him. Bagnaia and Martin were separated by only 13 points going into the final triple header of the MotoGP season. Martin received an official warning for low tire pressure and needs to win by at least 3 seconds in future races to avoid penalties. Reigning World Superbike champion Alvaro Bautista will make a wild-card entry in the race, riding a factory-spec Ducati GP23. Another WorldSBK rider, Alex Rins, will be replaced by Iker Lecuona due to leg surgery. There is a risk of afternoon rain during the weekend.
